With no shortage of drama, artistry, elegance, and headline making news, Paris Fashion Week (PFW) did not disappoint as the grand finale of a whirlwind tour of the most glorious fashion the world has to offer. The event began with a force when news broke about the terrifying robbery involving Kim Kardashian West. Yet the shows moved on, and significant fashion milestones occurred, including the debut of multiple designers at top fashion houses, like Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino. We also can’t forget to mention the epic Marie Antoinette inspired gym clothes that Rihanna designed for Fenty Puma. All in all, the event was as glamorous as ever, so today we will review five trends that dominated the runway at the Spring/Summer 2017 shows for PFW, so that you too can achieve high fashion Parisian status.
The 80s Are Dominating
If you like 80s fashion, then you’re in luck; it’s coming back in a big way. Balenciaga showcased the power suit with masculine tailoring, paired with neon colored, bejeweled nails. Louis Vuitton followed suit, literally, by also sending models down the runway in 80s power suits. And of course, there was Vaccarello’s debut collection for Saint Laurent that paid homage to the 1982 Yves Saint Laurent collection.
Spotted in Paris
As for prints this season, designers are sticking with their love for polka dots. Whether large polka dots or more subtle tiny ones, expect to see spots this Spring 2017.
Pink, Pink, and More Pink!
This season, at shows even outside Paris, pink was the “it” color. In Paris, at shows like Balenciaga and Valentino, we saw a serious nod to magenta, with deep purple undertones– a real showstopper.
All About the Girls
If you’re a chesty lady and you’re ready to show off “the girls,” then this is your time, as PFW was all about boobs this season. One example would be the gown designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, with embroidered hands that suggestively cup the wearer’s breasts. And of course, we can’t forget Phoebe Philo’s sheer front, white dress for Celine; or Vacrello’s use of pasties in his sexy, leather, mini dress for Saint Laurent.
Shine Bright Like a Diamond
Fashion houses across the board, including Alexander McQueen and Kenzo, sent models down the runway in head to toe sparkle. Another nod to 80s fashion perhaps? Regardless, don’t be surprised if the upcoming Spring season is full of glitz and glam
